Chiropractor Dr. Bruce Symons was born in Hong Kong to Scottish and Chinese parents, and the entire family emmigrated to Vancouver when he was 11 years old. He obtained his Bachelors in Zoology from the University of B.C. in 1985. He then relocated to Calgary in 1986, and completed the Biotechnology program at SAIT in 1987. With an interest in neurobiology research, he finished a Masters degree in Medical Science (specialization: Neuroscience) at the University of Calgary in 1992. During his time at the university, he developed a herniated disc in his low back and was told he would likely be paralysed from the waist down. After intensive treatment with his family chiropractor for over a year, the disc symptoms resolved, and he was so impressed with chiropractic philosophy that he enrolled in the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, graduating in 1997. He returned to Calgary to practice, and began a PhD at the Human Performance Lab, Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Calgary in 2001, focussing on the biomechanics of neck manipulation and stroke. He is married and has one son. Massage Therapists Elizabeth Von Hollen, R.M.T. graduated from the 2200 hour Massage Therapy program offered by Foothills College of Massage Therapy right here in Calgary. Registered with the Association of Massage Therapists and Wholistic Practioners, she has practiced in and around the Calgary area. Elizabeth’s areas of interest are Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, Elderly and Child massage, and of course Therapeutic and Relaxation Massage. Nadine Hunka is an RMT with 1300 hours training from an NHPC recognized institution and has trained and practiced in several modalities of massage therapy, both Swedish and non Swedish techniques which include manual lymphatic drainage, Pregnancy Massage, Deep Tissue Therapeutic and Relaxation massage. She believes in using massage therapy as a regular and consistent element of your health and wellness regime so you can establish a mind and body balance. She strives to create a non threatening, warm and welcoming environment that focuses on reducing and eliminating tension and stress being held within your muscles to achieve total relaxation. Nadine aims to further her massage therapy training by learning other modalities to ensure her clients are receiving the most appropriate care possible Melissa Symons, R.M.T. was born in Calgary. She recieved her Dental Assisting Diploma from SAIT in 1997, then recieved her Administrative Assistant diploma in 2001. Being fascinated by human bilology and physiology, Melissa decided to follow her heart and graduated from Alberta Massage Training at St. Mary’s University. Resgistered with the Natural Health Care Practitioners of Alberta, Melissa has been working at Sundance Chiropractic since the beginning of her practicum in 2010. Her strengths are myofacial release, manual lymph drainage and deep tissue massage. Melissa is also a part time artist and is married with 2 furry children. Melanie Raycevich, R.M.T. graduated in 1995 from the 2200 hour massage therapy program at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Sutton, Ontario. She is a registered member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and is registered here in Alberta with the Natural Health Practioners of Canada. Majority of Melanie’s 15 year career has been therapeutic/treatment focused, working mainly in a chiropractic setting, treating soft tissue injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents. However, she does enjoy giving a nice relaxation massage every now and again. Living a healthy and active lifestyle with balance is important to Melanie. Her regular practice of Bikram Yoga has inspired her to one day become a certified Bikram instructor. Acupuncturist Dr. Thory Tessem, TCMD, R.Ac. received his formal training in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He performed his postgraduate practicum in Hangzhou, Zheijiang, China. An avid martial artist and holder of several black belts, Dr. Thory’s interest in health and fitness is both personal and long-standing. Having been in practice for the past four years around Calgary and having lived here most of his life, Dr. Thory is excited to become part of the team at Sundance Chiropractic & Wellness.
